英詩翻譯 -- 華滋華斯的「詠水仙」（ I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud）－好山好水慢慢走

I wandered lonely as a cloud 獨行若浮雲

That floats on high o'er vales and hills, 漂泊山谷間

When all at once I saw a crowd, 驀地忽然見

A host, of golden daffodils; 遍地金水仙

Beside the lake, beneath the trees, 湖旁樹蔭底

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. 隨風舞蹁躚

Continuous as the stars that shine 綿延如星辰

And twinkle on the milky way, 輝爍銀河間

They stretched in never-ending line 展伸無極限

Along the margin of a bay: 遍綴水灣沿

Ten thousand saw I at a glance, 一瞬千千萬

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. 俯仰舞蹈間

The waves beside them danced; but they 身旁碧波舞

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: 花姿更欣然

A poet could not but be gay, 好花喜相伴

In such a jocund company: 詩人寧不歡

I gazed—and gazed—but little thought 未思何所獲

What wealth the show to me had brought: 但貪凝神觀

For oft, when on my couch I lie 常向長椅臥

In vacant or in pensive mood, 意緒空悽憮

They flash upon that inward eye 此境現心眼

Which is the bliss of solitude; 慰我意孤獨

And then my heart with pleasure fills, 滿心遂喜樂

And dances with the daffodils. 相偕水仙舞

威廉．華滋華斯（1770–1850）是英國最有名的詩人之一，浪漫派的代表作家。這首詠水仙的“I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud”，很可能是他流傳最廣的作品。詩人生長在英國風景優美的湖區（Lake District），年輕時到劍橋求學、又遊歷德法瑞士各國後，在二十九歲時返回湖區卜居，寫了很多描繪當地好山好水的不朽詩作。就像歸隱田園的大詩人陶淵明一樣，華滋華斯熱愛自然，「久去山澤遊，浪莽林野娛」，大半生徜徉於青山綠野之間，最後也在湖區終老。

此詩的靈感來自1802年的一次驚喜偶遇。當華滋華斯和妹妹桃樂絲（Dorothy Wordsworth）漫步山谷，來到海灣旁時，忽然看到滿路金黃燦爛，隨風飛舞的水仙花。深為美景震懾的華滋華斯，在大約兩年後寫出了「水仙」一詩。因為這首詩的用字遣詞並不深奧，其中對大自然美景的刻畫歌頌，又頗為契合中國人的樂山樂水情懷，所以也很受華人讀者喜愛，譯文版本繁多。在這裏我用五言古詩的形式翻譯，算是比較另類的嘗試。以舊體詩形式翻譯英詩，本身就相當受限；例如說“Which is the bliss of solitude” 其中的bliss，我就怎麼想也塞不進短短五個字裏頭去。但這其中的技術問題，我在舊作「英詩翻譯 -- ”輕歌消歇處”和“海之戀” 」一文中已經談過不少，就不再贅述了。

其實大自然鬼斧神工，「數大便是美」的感動，是不論賢愚拙巧、文才高低，任何人都能擁有的心情。看到漫山遍野絢麗的花海，何須是詩翁才會歡喜雀躍﹖家父家母生前酷愛旅行及攝影，在世界各地拍攝過不少花海的照片，可惜沒有湖區水仙遍野的美景。篇首的相片是在愛爾蘭鄉間所攝，多少有點英倫鄉野水邊黃花滿地的情調。在這段上面及左邊的照片，也能看到遍地流黃爍金，萬花爭放的壯觀景色；但是它們當然不是水仙花，而是加州頗負盛名的「羚羊谷」(Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve) 罌粟花，每到春天滿山滿谷野罌栗怒放，不知吸引了多少遊人。台灣近年來似乎也流行觀賞花海，我自開春起就不斷在格友家中看到櫻花林、桐花五月雪、金針花海、新社花海等大批相片。在此藉著翻譯華滋華斯詠水仙名詩的機會，貼上一些父母親在歐美、澳洲各地所攝的花海相片，和同好們共享。
